Feature Story: A Reflection

Well if I could summarize my entire process of making my feature story in one word…it would be “nightmare”. I’ve always known my relationship with electronics to be a little on the rocky side…but thanks to final cut pro I have a new found hatred for computers.
Just one week before our stories were due, I lost everything. My hard drive, my headphones, my SD cards….and all my interviews and b roll that was lost with them. Following that one of my newly purchased SD cards ended up being corrupt…and I was unable to use any footage off that either.
But time presses on and as our deadline was approaching, the word scrambling doesn’t even justify the process I went through in order to get my story done on time. Many sleepless nights, and early mornings. Luckily I was able to find more people who were willing to interview on camera and getting new b roll wasn’t entirely difficult.
It was a learning experience and thanks in part to all the problems I had, I believe it has made me an expert at troubleshooting. Even though I had to pretty much shoot my story twice, I believe the final product is something that I can be proud of.
Overall, I emerged victorious…I defeated the evil being known as final cut pro and managed to create the story that I had envisioned from the beginning. Good work to everyone who sacrificed both sleep and eating in order to get their stories done on time!
