DeGeNeRaTiOn NaTiOn

This week for 519 online news, I was assigned to be studio cam operator. I was looking forward to getting more roles that would increase my technical abilities and this was a good learning experience.

As I do not have a lot of experience working with cameras, it was fun to experiment with different shot styles and settings. Working closely with our show host this week who was Oje, it was quite the humorous experience capturing bloopers on camera.

Our show this week had a wide array of stories including an interview with Sam Roberts, an update on the occupy movement and an interview with local figure skating champions. For the first time we also attempted to include a weather forecast.

I would have to say that of all my roles, my most enjoyed experience was that of show host. I am looking forward to returning to this role next week and should the show be live, it would be a great experience learning to work under pressure.

It would seem that most of the students in the Tuesday lab have become accustomed to the process of gathering footage, editing and overcoming whatever technical difficulties. We certainly have learned a lot in a short period of time and its been great to get a sense of a what a real newsroom is like.
